Let me tell you a little about Let's Eat Cake. It's a blog about desserts prepared by my family. From western desserts like Cupcakes, Cheesecakes, Tiramisu and Fruit Cakes to local cake like Sugee Cakes and Peranakan desserts like Kuey Bingka (tapioca cake) and Pineapple Tarts. Loving all the different desserts, I've got my late Kongkong (Grandpa), Mum and Aunts to pass me all the different recipes and I have been practicing and improving the recipes, with their blessings, of course...

Love it... But there were mixed opinion. Some like it with the frosting, some don't..

Ben's 4th birthday was coming and we were asking him what birthday cake does he wants for his party. He said he wanted a strawberry cake with Thomas the Train.. Since we knew that our relatives love our Ocheeze, we decided to do an Ocheeze and topped it with strawberries..

Hello y'all.. I'm Sherilyn..

Growing up in a family that loves to bake and cook and always having gatherings, I was always in the kitchen where the action was. In fact I baked my 1st brownie from a Betty Crocker Brownie mix at the age of 3 yrs.

After graduating with a degree in film and television from a university in Brisbane I came home to Singapore last December 2009 and have been freelancing with different production houses. In between my freelance jobs, I would always help my mum with baking Cupcakes, Cheesecakes and Tiramisu whenever she has orders for the cakes. It started with helping mum but as I baked I realised that I enjoyed baking very much. I would go through websites in search of "unusual" recipes, like having guinness stout in cupcakes, and experimenting it further by adding Kirsch to the mix and topping-up with Kirsch soaked cherries. I have named these cupcakes "Above 18"...

I love decorating the cakes, especially the little cupcakes. I also have a theme for the packaging whether they are in cardboard boxes for cakes or plastic containers for the Tiramisu. I will tie the boxes with ribbons, bows and flowers and photograph the cakes and the packaging once they are ready and beautifully displayed.

Since I've got so many photographs of my cakes, I decided to start a blog and market the cakes.

My mummy, Jae has been baking like forever..............but it was always for family gatherings or as potluck desserts to bring to relatives and friends' parties. Occasionally she would bake to sell to friends who ask her to bake for them for Christmas or Chinese New Year.

Baking got serious for Jae only end of last year (2009) after she brought her OCheeze (oreo cheesecake) for her cousins' Jane & Helen's Halloween Party. Jane, Helen and their guests raved about how much they loved OCheeze and volunteered to be Jae's "Sales/Marketing Directors" and they even ordered the cakes (insisting that they pay for the cakes) - Jane bought Tiramisu for her colleagues to try and Helen bought OCheeze as a Christmas gift for her boss, and true to their word, Cousins Jane & Helen started to bring in orders for the cakes. Chinese New Year became a busy time for Jae and the family, with everyone chipping in to help with the orders.

Being more confident, Jae also started to market her cakes, and now the orders kept coming in... Starting with orders from friends or cousins and then friends of friends and now friends of friends of friends.

Jae's Motto: always use the finest quality ingredients.
